Varun is happy to be thriving in the IPL despite the “different” times.
“We have to accept that this IPL is different.”
Best said by Varun Chakaravarthy. He was talking following the easy seven-wicket victory of Kolkata Knight Riders against Delhi Capitals at Eden Gardens, which was, for once, a flashback to the days of mediocre totals.
By coincidence, there was a small amount of pitch for the spinners, which Varun made the most of two bowl figures of 4-0-16-3. The victory was a breather for him in an otherwise uneventful season, as well as for his team, which had only failed to hold a target of 262 in its previous game. In T20 cricket, it was the highest run chase.
“The last two matches before this, we didn’t defend that well,” Varun said. “Because we got to bowl in the first innings, which was wonderful, and because the wickets have been quite quiet in the second innings. Additionally, the pitch was quite useful.
“All the pitches were slow, but this one had a little bit more twist to it than the rest. That was the distinction. For every match, the length is essentially the same. That’s just the way the wicket acts. This wicket gave and aided our bowlers, but it wasn’t as helpful in other games.”
Varun talked on how the team bounced back from a heartbreaking loss in their previous game to secure a vital victory in the following one.
“The previous game was a really difficult pill to swallow. Varun said. “Everyone contributed during our several talks with the management and coaches Carl Crowe, Bharat Arun, Gambhir, Chandrakant, and Abhishek Nair. We devised numerous strategies. Even Shah Rukh bhai stopped by yesterday and talked to me extensively about… ‘Don’t take it personally, this IPL is just happening at a fast clip, so don’t doubt yourself,’ he said.
I gave a strong effort as well, and the previous game was beneficial.
Varun shared the opinion of many that Impact Player had contributed significantly to a season of record-breaking team totals.
Even though the results of the most recent encounter indicate that I think I have been employing my tactics appropriately, it wasn’t available before. Psychologically, we must rise to the challenge and acknowledge that this IPL is different, Varun remarked.
“The Impact Player regulation was in place the previous year as well. The key takeaway is that teams are now more aware of how to deploy impact players more effectively this season. They all want to attack the first ball since they are aware that there is extra batting. And so it is at this point. Despite the bowlers’ tears, that’s just the way it is. We must accept the challenge. Nothing can be changed, not even the side of the land.”
Varun praised the efforts of the new-ball bowlers who made sure that KKR secured frequent wickets early on while the Delhi Capitals attempted to maintain momentum following their batting decision.
That has been the general tendency, and if you look at Eden Gardens, you’ll notice that everyone there wants to submit large amounts with good intentions. While I can’t say it’s incorrect, I believe our bowlers bowled excellently throughout the powerplay. similar to how Vaibhav and Starc bowled. Thus, this time we have to offer it to our bowlers,” Varun remarked.
