Following three key wickets in the second day’s post-lunch session, Shoaib Bashir handed England the advantage in the fourth Test match against India in Ranchi. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a valiant half-century at one end, but Bashir destroyed India by taking out Ravindra Jadeja, Rajat Patidar, and Shubman Gill.

Before taking on James Anderson for a couple of boundaries in one over, Gill got the practice off to a good start by driving Bashir through covers and striding down the course in the opening over. Then Jaiswal got loose and gave Bashir his first six of the day by hitting him over long on. When Ollie Robinson discovered the outside edge, he thought he had defeated Jaiswal; however, the third umpire determined that the ball had rebounded slightly ahead of Ben Foakes’s attempt to pouch it.

Just as the two were beginning to establish a significant rapport, Bashir provided England with an important breakthrough. The offspinner successfully overturned a decision by rapping Gill in the pads and beating his inside edge. Patidar got off to a quick start, hitting four boundaries, but Bashir trapped him leg before wicket before he could calm down. Even though the ball spun in sharply, replays revealed that it would have clipped leg stumps.

Then, in an attempt to put the pressure back on England, Jadeja launched a counterattack. He faced Tom Hartley and hit him for a six off a straight drive and then a slog sweep over deep midwicket. Sadly for India, Bashir struck at the other end when Jadeja inside-edged one to the fielder at short leg, ending the show. On the other hand, Jaiswal reached his fiftieth birthday while seeing the procession, and India would firmly rely on the young player once more to make sure England doesn’t win the match easily.
