Shakib desires to play T20Is going forward

Before the 2024 T Twenty World Cup,  Shakib, who along with Rohit Sharma is the only player to have competed in every ICC T20 World Cup to date, might be retiring from international T20I competition. With 36 matches played, Shakib has already claimed the most wickets in the tournament with 47.
When it comes to whether or not to continue playing T20 cricket for his nation he has sent out different messages.
Shakib recently discussed his intention to decide on his international career following the 2025 Champions Trophy but during this conversation he also mentioned looking ahead to the upcoming T20 World Cup.

First of all I had no idea that I would play for so long and secondly I had competed in every T20 World Cup alongside Rohit Sharma since the competition’s inception. In a video that was posted on BCB’s Facebook page on Friday Shakib said I’m proud to have been able to represent the country.

As the only two players to have participated in every T20 World Cup Rohit Sharma and I aspire to play in another one. But first we want to make sure that Bangladesh does better than it did in the previous T20 event.

Shakib said  he believes Bangladesh will perform well in the competition because the wickets will be comparable to what they play on at home.

Shakib stated It’s okay that the United States is my second home. It’s hard to say but I think we’ll get that. It is because we did well when we played in Florida and the West Indies earlier.

Because those pitches are so comparable to ours at home we always receive preferential treatment there. I hope we’ll have the upper hand in both situations he said.

Shakib went on to say that he anticipates a close match between bat and ball during the World Cup.

The only thing I feel is that, unlike World Cups this competition between bat and ball should be equal. I believe that this time around will be the same.

Shakib acknowledged that he still considers playing cricket to be far simpler than handling issues as a parliamentarian. He was elected to the Bangladeshi parliament in the most recent general elections having won the Magura seat.

Shakib said Being a member of the parliament is difficult for me, compared to playing cricket. I have played for a long time since I was a child. I feel very comfortable with it but this (politics) is new to me.

There would be many Bangladeshi supporters at the World Cup. He expressed the hope that they would provide us with their unwavering support which would enable us to do well.

He continued, saying that he only wanted to contribute to the Bangladeshi team. I hope that we do well in this World Cup. I don’t want to see anything other than my name.
