After the series victory, Dhananjaya praises the quick bowlers.

Dhananjaya de Silva, the captain of Sri Lanka expressed his satisfaction with his pace unit’s performance on Wednesday saying they showed they could be effective even when facing lifeless wickets. In the two-match series, Sri Lanka comfortably overcame the hosts after winning the second Test by 192 runs. With a total of 37 wickets taken, their quick bowlers played a significant role in their triumph.

As captain, I like to play a more aggressive style of cricket and stick with quick bowlers rather than selecting a spinner at a dead wicket. Consequently, we decided to use three quicks. After the victory on Wednesday, Dhananjaya told reporters, “Our bowlers proved that they don’t need grass on the track to get wickets.”

It’s really difficult to obtain a wicket here. We had to work really hard since it was quite hot outside and there wasn’t much life on the pitch. Our hitters’ skill allowed us to take a commanding lead in the first inning. That was to our bowlers’ great advantage.

“It gives the squad great confidence to win a series like this one with our quick bowlers. We’ll take care of the things that require improvement. However, we’ll take care of issues and be well prepared when that tour approaches. We’re overjoyed with the victory. We have a lot of room for improvement, which I have spoken with the players and the coaches are attempting to address. We can develop winning habits if we can improve 1% every day and learn new things.”

In order to continue pressing for wickets in these conditions, the captain emphasized once more how important it is to remain aggressive. “You have to be a bit forceful sometimes. In a country such as this, players might get lazy when it’s hot outside. But if I or any other player on the field dives a little bit and makes a beautiful stop, then everyone gets a little boost. The other ten players are people I’m attempting to keep in the game. While I’m not advocating for harshness, I do believe that when you take the lead, you should exhibit some anger.”

Dhananjaya continued by saying that there is no competition between them following the well-known timed out incident involving Angelo Mathews.. “I don’t believe so. There isn’t any competition. It’s only a game between two countries. Playing hard and staying true to the spirit of the game is important. Not only against Bangladesh, but in every match, it occurs,” he said in closing.
