Sri Lanka seals a decisive victory to win the series 2-0.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz (81* off 110) put up a valiant fight. But it was in vain as Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh by 192 runs in the second Test at Chattagram on Wednesday, April 3. The outcome ensured that the Lankans would win the two-match series with a clean sweep. Bangladesh was never going to be easy winners, as they began the last day at 268/7 and needed a further 243 runs to secure an unlikely victory. Mehidy was eyeing a possible century while hanging out with Taijul Islam and Hasan Mahmud, who provided him with nice company. However, Lahiru Kumara and Kamindu Mendis made sure that the procedures were completed during the morning session.

The first-innings display by Sri Lanka’s batsmen, who amassed a massive 531 on a favorable batting surface, laid the groundwork for the victory. While none of the batters reached a hundred, six, including the top order, reached fifty. Nishan Madushka (57) got things started, and Kusal Mendis (93), together with Dimuth Karunaratne (86), provided Sri Lanka with the perfect foundation for a large score. Bangladesh’s bowlers failed to apply steady pressure, thus Dinesh Chandimal (59) and Dhananjaya de Silva (70) handled the consolidation duties. Though there was early hints of spin and some assistance for the seamen, the hosts’ onslaught lacked bite.

Though he ultimately ran out of partners, Kamindu Mendis (92*) had a chance to make it three tons in a row. Bangladesh had to bat out of their skins to remain in the match because of Sri Lanka’s batting performance. All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s participation gave the home team an additional batsman in the starting lineup, which helped them. Zakir Hasan (54) led Bangladesh’s response as they got off to a strong start in favorable batting conditions. The home team was steadily gaining confidence at 96/1 on the third day. But Asitha Fernando’s (4-34) masterful performance completely changed the course of the match.

Before Asitha intervened, Vishwa Fernando removed Taijul Islam, the night watchman, and Zakir, which is how the downfall began. Following a customary Bangladeshi collapse, the final nine wickets went for just 82 runs. Though they had the option to force a follow-on, Sri Lanka chose to bat once more to extend their lead. The surface began to play tricks, and the visitors’ second-inning performance was not like as impressive as their first. Hasan Mahmud (4-65) and Khaled Mahmud (2-34) of Bangladesh caused Sri Lanka a great deal of problems with their speed.

The highest scorer, Angelo Mathews (56), and his 43-run partnership with Prabath Jayasuriya somewhat turned the tide of the innings. Although Sri Lanka was never really tested with to their commanding 353-run first innings advantage. They correctly declared at 157-7, giving Bangladesh a massive 511 goal. In the fourth inning, the hosts made a stronger effort. But once more, many hitters received early starts and wasted them. For Bangladesh, it was the end of the series as their batters let them down once more. On grounds that provided something for the quicks, Sri Lanka’s pacers outperformed the spinners.
