Hemp begs Bangladeshi batters to exercise greater mindfulness

David Hemp expressed dissatisfaction that his team’s first innings could not last more than 51 overs. He is the coach of the Sri Lankan team which is hosting Test series against Bangladesh. His disappointment was realistic since he worked hard to build the morale of his team. With this lost expectation he is finding himself in hot waters.

Sri Lanka led by 92 runs in the first innings. Thanks to Bangladesh’s awful batting performance. It saw them all out for just 188 runs in the first innings. With five wickets remaining in the second innings, Sri Lanka led by 211 runs overall at 199-5. They will have to keep them to fewer than 250 runs, Hemp elaborated.

We are upset that we were unable to bat for a full 51 overs. Although a little annoying, it is what it is. In the end, we were fortunate to secure some wickets, but we should have done better. They have a 211-run advantage. Hemp told reporters at SICS on Saturday, “We could be looking at a 250 chase if we can get early wickets tomorrow morning.”

Hemp went on to say that while facing the Sri Lankan pacers, hitters were guilty of getting trapped at the wicket and playing deliveries that they should be defending, as the tourists produced an outstanding batting show to take all ten wickets.

“The three seamers from SL bowled pretty well, in my opinion. They bowled extremely nice lengths, if you noticed. They challenged the stumps by bowling at an angle. Hemp stated, “I believe they were at fault for becoming trapped at the crease or for playing balls that weren’t striking the stumps.

We will talk about it tonight and into tomorrow to make sure we know exactly how we’re going to approach learning how to deal with their bowlers. Above all, we need to consider how we can outscore their bowlers. Our goal is to score runs.
We most likely played at balls that were a little wide and at balls that we ought to have been defending because we were a little bit stuck on the crease.”

Hemp said that it did not prepare him to use the white-ball competitions, the DPL and BPL, as an excuse for not playing in the longer format.

“You can debate either way, but in my opinion, that mindset is more important. It isn’t a major issue in my opinion. The players handle that fairly well. It’s important to be aware of your off-stump location. Knowing your opponent and the threats they pose will help you cope with them. “Timetable dictates schedule,” he declared.

“You’re still engaged in a cricket match. Not to get too excited about red- or white-ball cricket. Based on their performance in the first three days coming up, players are well-prepared and performing well. We must continue to have faith in the preparation since there was good foot movement and decision-making. You must overcome the fact that you are playing the extended version.

“The red and white balls are merely colors to me. When playing the extended version, a batter must be aware of their off-stump location in order to bat longer and maintain a scoring mindset. It is the same as the white ball with only minor modifications.
You need to fully comprehend the game’s structure,” he continued.
