Imad Wasim has decided to come back from his international retirement. He is now eligible to play in the June T20 World Cup. Imad had a good run of form in the shortest format before announcing his international retirement in November 2023.

“It is exciting to announce that under meeting PCB officials. I have reconsidered my retirement and delights me to declare my availability for Pakistan cricket in the T20I format leading up to ICC T20 World Cup 2024,” according to Imad’s post on X.

“I want to express my gratitude to the PCB for believing in me, and I promise to work tirelessly to honor my nation. First and foremost, Pakistan!”

Imad made his international debut in 2015. Despite a strong beginning to his career marked by a successful U19 World Cup campaign. He frequently found himself in and out of the squad. Imad sought comfort in international T20 leagues throughout the world when he began playing for the national team.

He was on fire in the  Pakistan Super League recently finished. Especially during the playoffs when they name him Player of the Match in each of the final three games for the winning Islamabad United team. This made him the first player to accomplish this feat.
In a PSL final, Imad also made history by becoming the first player to pick a fifer. In addition to being an essential component of Islamabad’s bowling attack, Imad demonstrated his clutch batting ability during the tournament. He made significant appearances in two key games—one of which was a must-win to guarantee playoff qualification and the other in the postseason.

Imad hasn’t played in an ODI since 2020, and his last T20I came in April of 2023. The all-round player’s return appeared imminent given that Pakistan is still having trouble maintaining the balance of their T20 team and that Imad is performing admirably in franchise leagues. This is especially true given that the West Indies and USA are the locations upcoming T20 World Cup.

Pakistan next Twenty20 match will be a home series against New Zealand next month. Followed by a tour of England in May as they prepare for the Twenty20 World Cup.
